  1. I am very interested in learning about your trials and tribulations.
I am in the process of writing a fantasy book - but with a little child now, I am anticipating finishing it by 2020 or so.... if I am lucky.

    Hang in there.

  2. Girlfriend, I am sooo proud of you! You are doing something really amazing.

I am in your boat, but I am writing a memoir.

Here's a funny story about query letters.

I sat down and wrote for 3 or 4 hours. I then decided that I would do my research and see how I needed to change my query letter. I tinkered and tinkered and thought that I had the basic structure, but I couldn't get my voice. My letter was standard business and my memoir is the antithesis of standard business. I hemmed and hawed, tweaked and tweaked some more and then randomly stroked a key that didn't want stroking and the whole damn thing disappeared. Gone. I didn't panic immediately. I searched my saved drafts file and did deep breathing. Still nothing. Then I burst into tears and said every bad word I know. Then I tried calling my husband to see if he could help, but of course, I couldn't get him on the phone. Then, I came back to the computer and let my anger spew all over the place.

Then, I realized that I had found my voice. I was very relieved, but also found it both sad and humorous to find out that anger is such an integral part of who I am.

So I still lack some research. I need to know if there are any titles out there like mine and I need to know what else is available in memoir of p.o.'d minority females. It's tough to do all the way from Chile.

I can't recommend enough that you find a good writer's group. Mine is a supportive but very honest group. One woman actually told me that she didn't think anyone who would read my book would actually be a reader. She changed her mind, though, after she understood my approach and she encouraged me to query to see if I can get some help.

I will check your blog from time to time, but be sure to facebook me anytime if there's something that you want to bat around.

    Un abrazo fuerte,

    Danette

ps A great book with bullying as a theme is China Boy. I can't remember the author, but I think he was a Lee. It's set in San Francisco.
